Midlands History

This new group will commence in the New Year & will cover the people, places, events & ideas associated with the midlands.

The group will meet on the first Wednesday monthly 10am till 12noon
The date and venue for the group will be announced in the newsletter & this page updated when they are available.

We all know of the North South divide in the UK but the Midlands can be seen as a non-area lost between the two.
The area has always had skilled workers since medieval times & this with natural resources set the stage for industrial pioneers. It is so much more than industry though as
the area has a rich archeological history, with many surviving medieval castles and historical sites.

I have defined the region using historic delineations which still influence the regions today to include …….
East Midlands Counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, & Nottinghamshire
West Midlands Counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire
plus the Metropolitan County of West Midlands which includes the Cities of Birmingham, Coventry & Wolverhampton plus the boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull & Walsall.

You can contact me at newslet@hinckleyu3a.co.uk. (put Midlands History Group in the subject line)
